Very inspiring, thorough and exquisite!Reviewed by G. Koren, 2009-12-23
This book is charming, written in a serious and pertinent, but
entertaining manner. It is mostly aimed at web developers (i.e. web
programmers, at any level) who are looking to maximize their
website's potential by bestowing it an approachable, functional and
sophisticated design.
This adheres exactly to the cliché of the web programmer that
can't figure out design, color schemes, texture and layout, and
most importantly, how all these things intertwine and cooperate to
create a welcoming abode, or on the contrary, mutilating the users'
experience, making them flee before their eyes start to ache.
I've had a pleasure skimming this book and rummaging for tips on
how to provide my websites with infallible, rich and exuberant
feel, and I would gladly recommend it to both web designers and
developers alike.
IDEA GIVINGReviewed by GUIRI, 2009-11-22
It is not a book I would consider mandatory but it gives a good
overview of what can be done.
It does not show you how though. It has many good links to some
helpful websites to define the look and feel of your project
website.
It is nice to have but nor really helpful for anyone I would
compare it to a nice set picture catalogues for someone in search
of visual ideas.
The Beautiful Principles of Web DesignReviewed by Angela Davis, 2009-11-10
The book The Beautiful Principles of Web Design, by Jason Beaird
was to my surprise very interesting. It was broken down in to five
major concepts that capture what web design is and how to approach
it. I really enjoyed this book because it was not to over bearing
with extensive information, but had a really humanistic approach. I
would give this book a 4 out of 4 stars.
Pros It gave you a tutorial on how to use CSS programs
Cons- Some concepts are a bit elementary

Useful for Beginners to Intermediate Level DesignersReviewed by James T. Humphrey II, 2009-09-04
I enjoyed this book. It is easy to read and is well structured. The
author walks you through the concepts used to design web sites, and
takes you from the drawing board to the actual implementation of a
site he made. This book is ultimately about creating beautiful web
sites from sound graphic design principles. The book is chaulked
full of color photos of real life examples, along with numerous
referrences to other resources in print and on the web.
Generally speaking, I found this book to be a good source of
inspiration, and something to flip through for review. While the
concepts found here are nothing earth shattering, and generally
only skims the surface of issues, I think experienced designers
(such as myself) can still benefit from reviewing this book.
VERY HELPFUL, GREAT LAYOUT, & WELL WRITTENReviewed by bradford g wheler, 2009-07-21
Beaird's book is very well written and a great help in
understanding what make a beautiful website. Given how many truly
bad websites are out there more designers need to read this
book.
Before setting up the website for Snappy Sayings: wit & wisdom
from the world's greatest minds I read Beaird's book and two or
three others. I found his the most helpful. Now that my website is
up I am going back to "The Principles of Beautiful Web Design" to
improve what I have. His design ideas even helped me with the
layout and design of Snappy Sayings: wit & wisdom from the
world's greatest minds. I wonder if he knew he was also helping
make book designs more beautiful?
There is so much in this book that web designer who are from the
techie side can easily use. Years of design school and experience
in an easy to understand and use format is what makes this such a
great book.
